Inknut or Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) is a herb rich in medicinal properties. Haritaki directly acts on the gastro-intestinal tract and reduces the passage of harmful toxins to the liver and kidneys. It is one of the constituents of the popular Ayurvedic formula Triphala (which contains equal proportions of Haritaki, Bahera (Terminalia bellerica) and Amla (Emblica officinalis).
This herb is an effective remedy for chronic ulcer, diarrhea, dysentery and piles. It is also an effective purgative and helps in removing toxins and fats from the body. Haritaki contains chebulic acid, which catalyses the production of insulin generated by the pancreatic gland.
You can treat mouth ulcers with this simple remedy: Crush a few pods of haritaki and boil in a cup of water. The resulting pale yellow decoction should be cooled and set aside. Rinse your mouth with the decoction several times a day. You will find that this remedy gives relief from the irritation and you will be able to eat and chew with much less discomfort.
